Throne a Curve
It’s interesting to compare this with the very early and minimalist “Minions at Work” cartoons. Everything here is more sophisticated: the lighting, the composition, the set. Lots of lovely textures and shadows here, both real and digitally created in post-processing, and some nice use of highlight color in the lighting.
Most of the props and set items are from the Halloween section in the dollar store, from the “stone” wall panels that are actually foam gravestones, to the nifty death’s-head statues in the foreground. Not sure if the chrome skull mask with built-in black drape was from the dollar store, or the thrift store. I suspect the latter. But it makes for a nifty wall hanging. The throne itself is a fashion doll item.
Very cute idea, well done. You do know that Mythbusters proved that hot-air hand dryers spread disease, right? And what the heck is that “egg on a stand” thing?
The “egg on a stand.” Well, we used to have a colorful, local, character who, for reasons I never understood, went around town, and he always had a few of these eggs, which are actually made out of polished stone, in his pocket. And he would give them to random people. One day, he gave one to me, and that’s what you see in the picture. I have no idea what the bent wire stand it’s on is. I found it in a thrift store, and I normally use it as a Minion-scale coat rack. But somehow, when I was doing this shoot, I spotted the egg sitting on the shelf, and the coat rack was sitting nearby, and I just put them together when assembling the set.
As for what the “in world” explanation of it is, I don’t have a clue. It looked vaguely sinister to me, and I went with it. Sometimes, it just works that way…
